Manta Ray

The manta ray, also known as the devilfish, is the largest of all rays. The largest manta ray was more than 7.6 meters or 25 feet across and weighed about 2,300 kilograms or 5,100 pounds. They frequent around tropical waters, typically coral reefs and have the largest brain to body ratio of all the rays, skates, and sharks. Recent studies have suggested that manta rays are actually comprised of two different species, the giant manta and the reef manta ( this has not been proven).
Manta rays feed on plankton and fish larvae which are filtered from the water passing through their gills as they swim. Manta rays also have a thick mucus body coating, much thicker than other ray species. They also have a tail like the stingray, but has lost its stinger and is harmless to divers.
Manta rays are predators to sharks and some killer whale, or orca.
